For many people, music is a constant in their lives. As a musician, I’ve dedicated myself to the study & love of the art, but even I still find myself listening to music and humming along in my free time.
We know that music reaches us on a level that not much else can. It slips right past our defenses bringing up emotional memories, changing our moods, or simply helping us focus on the task ahead.
The research is starting to evolve as to why. Some music is able to induce alpha and theta brainwave states, which are the same states we experience when we meditate. They cause us to relax, allow us to let go of any stress we are holding onto and relax our nervous system so we can move out of a fight or flight state of mind.
But it's more than just science because we feel music in our bodies, our hearts, and our minds.
Many people can physically feel the vibrations of a loud bass, but as a classical singer, I am trained to feel the vibrations occurring in my entire body while I’m singing. With practice, you can attune to these subtle vibrations & let them guide you to a deeper connection with your body and sound.
But aren’t we constantly being subjected to subtle vibrations we are currently unaware of?
Just because we cannot hear something doesn’t mean it isn’t affecting us. At a subatomic level everything is in constant motion, thus everything is always vibrating. Vibration is the foundation of all life. Everything is constantly emitting a sound and a frequency.
Music is genuinely the foundation for all of creation. Our bodies are made to be sensitively impacted by sound and vibration.
So at Shine Yoga & Meditation, we use music as the foundation of our yoga & meditation practice. Handcrafted tracks infused with intentions of health & healing along with the utilization of frequencies proven to support a healthy mind & body.
When music is mixed with movement & meditation it has a deeper impact on our body, mood, state of mind, and our health. The reason as to why is deeply personal to each person. It is difficult to quantify the causation of music's impact, but the effects can speak for themselves.
Much love, May your light shine!
